The organization was set up with the express focus on furthering the science and practice of medicine.
The Indian Medical Association of Tasmania (IMAT) is formed in 2018 to create a bridge between medical professions in India and Australia. It is not only a platform for sharing scientific information but also one for networking and expanding on the social connections and discussing issues that affect the IMAT members and the wider community.
Farewell to Ash
Past President Dr.Ashutosh Hardikar is moving to Royal Adelaide Hospital as Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery. IMAT will farewell him on July 2 in Launceston.
Dr Ulhas Lad is no more. May he rest in peace.
It is with a very heavy heart that the Indian Medical Association of Tasmania (IMAT), informs its members about the untimely demise of Dr Ulhas Lad, a doyen and much-loved member of the association, on 3 June 2020.
Ulhas and wife Geeta made Tasmania their home several decades ago, initially in Smithton and then in Hobart. Their friendship and mentoring was instrumental in making the Indian community the close-knit, cohesive group that it is now.
Ulhas opened his house to all newcomers to Tasmania. We fondly remember dinner get togethers at his place with the Indian Cricket team, watching old black and white movies on his giant screen, Sunday afternoon tennis games, late night Karaoke sessions, monthly Poojas, pot-luck dinner parties at the Migrant Resource Centre, celebration of all Indian festivals and explaining their relevance to our children, and activities that introduced newcomers to Tassie and helped make it their home.
He was Godfather and Big Brother to all of us.Ulhas was a legend. His good humor, ready support and deep friendship will be sorely missed. We wish his children Anoop and Aparna, his daughter-in-law, Jo, and the wider family, our most heartfelt condolences. And to his wife, Dr Geeta Lad, no less an inspiration and support for all of us, we offer our prayers for strength and peace. We are there for you Geeta ji, as part of your family
