As you may all know now that Dr.Ashutosh Hardikar (Ash) is moving to Adelaide as the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the RAH.
Dr. Hardikar received his cardiothoracic surgical training along with vascular surgery training at the University of Mumbai and completed his MCh thesis of neurological complications of open-heart surgery.He further did a fellowship at the Royal Adelaide hospital for 3 years before returning to India to set up a new unit in Pune. He headed the unit till 2008. Ashutosh relocated to Tasmania in 2008 and currently is the head of cardiothoracic department at the RHH. He was involved with the training of cardiothoracic trainees from 2008 to 2017.He is an examiner for the RACS, and also a senior lecturer at the UTAS. He is currently doing a PhD at the Menzies centre on bicuspid aortic valves and aortic pathology.
Ashutosh is a member of various cardiothoracic societies: ANZSCTS, EACTS, STS and IACTS.
He has set up a Tasmanian bicuspid aortic valve and aortic pathology registry which now has 600 odd patients. Given his interest in databases, this registry is now part of BAVCON, a consortium of worldwide registries and IRAD. Ashutosh is an author in over 30 peer reviewed publications, active reviewer as well as on the editorial board of some leading journals.
Ashutosh was the president of IMAT from 2019-2022.
